LEARN Resource Kits
Libraries and Educators Acquiring Resources Needed Resource kits are a simple, yet under-utilized service provided by librarians and media specialists. Many educators do not have the time to peruse the collection of library resources; nor do they have the media specialist's wide knowledge of her collection, or her ability to find reliable online multimedia to supplement their lesson. In these resource kits, the librarian compiles information based on themes requested by teachers. Some examples of kits that I have compiled are shown here. To the right, is the Endangered Animals unit, aimed at 2nd grade educators. In addition, I have included a table of contents of a kit I created.

This is part of the above Endangered Animals Unit. They are book jackets that have accumulated over the years, and could be used by teachers for bulletin board decoration, sorting games (like, endangered/not endangered), or not used at all. A teacher doesn't have to use everything in the kit. Maybe another teacher who gets the kit will use the book jackets, but not another material. My goal is to provide the educator with as much variety in resources as I have access to in the library.
